1. Why we need to change the variable if we used any of the hardship variables?

The hardship variables use food insecurity to costruct the variables. So we can’t use a variable that directly has information about our outcome to predict the outcome.

1. Why should we be cautious of using survey question variables?

These variables may be integrated into other variables already. They have not been processed by the survey designers, so we need to be cautious and think extra critically if we use them!
